Mercedes-Benz has revealed the 2018 Mercedes-Benz X-Class pickup, a truck that many probably never really thought Mercedes would build. Mercedes-Benz first revealed plans to introduce a midsize pickup with the X-Class concept last year and now the production version is here.
Nissan and Mercedes-Benz teamed up to create the X-Class. Under the skin the X-Class is based on the same platform that’s used by the Nissan Navara and the upcoming Renault Alaskan. On the outside, there’s no mistaking this truck for anything besides a Mercedes-Benz, especially from the front with its GLS-like face.
Inside the overall interior design is aligned with the rest of the Mercedes-Benz lineup, which means you’ll get an interior that is far more luxurious than anything else in the midsize class. A 5.4-inch infotainment screen is standard, but you can upgrade to a larger 8.4-inch unit. Leather seats are optional and the rear bench seat can fit up to three passengers with ease.
When the X-Class goes on sale it will be offered with a choice of three engines. A 2.3L diesel with two two power outputs is available: In the X 220 d it generates 163 hp and in the X 250 d it generates 190 hp. A high-torque V6 diesel engine will be released mid-2018 with 258 hp. The smaller 2.3L diesel can be equipped with either rear or all-wheel drive, while the larger V6 comes standard with the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.
So now for the bad news. Mercedes-Benz has no plans to bring the 2018 Mercedes-Benz X-Class to the United States, since it says that it’s too small for American tastes.
