BMW and Audi are both ditching their large displacement engines for small more efficient engines with turbos, well it looks like Mercedes-Benz is also about to follow the trend. The latest reports are claiming that Mercedes-Benz is going to replace the 6.2L V8 it currently offers in its AMG models with a turbo-charged 5.5L.

Daimler AG Group Research & Mercedes-Benz Cars Development board member Dr. Thomas Weber recently revealed to Inside Line that the 5.5L V8 will replace the 6.2L by the end of next year. Weber didn’t provide any specifications of the new engine. He also stated that other all 2011 V8 powered Mercedes-Benz models will use smaller turbocharged V8s.
