McLaren has officially unveiled the 720S Spider, which it describes as its “most accomplished convertible supercar ever.” With its carbon fiber body structure and new retractable hard top, the 720S Spider only weighs 108 lbs more than the 720S Coupe.

The 720S Spider’s retractable hard top (RHT) is made of carbon fiber and can be raised or lowered in only 11 seconds at speeds of up to 31 mph. The RHT is also available with an electrochromic glass panel that can rapidly switch between tinted and transparent states.

The 720S Spider is powered by the same 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine as the Coupe, which generates 710 horsepower and 568 lb-ft. of torque. Even with the extra few pounds, the 720S Spider can reach 60 mph in only 2.8 seconds and 124 mph in 7.9 seconds – just 0.1 seconds slower than the Coupe. With the roof raised, the 720S Spider has a top speed of 212 mph, just like the Coupe, but with the top down the top speed dips a bit to 202 mph.
