McLaren has officially unveiled the McLaren Speedtail – the fastest McLaren yet. The McLaren Speedtail can reach speeds up to 250 mph, but sadly all 106 units planned have been reserved for a crazy price of $2.24 million (£1.75 million).
The McLaren Speedtail is inspired by the McLaren F1 from the 1990s and serves as the brand’s first ever Hyper-GT. It’s unique shape has been optimized to help it slip through the wind, which also helps it top the F1’s 243 mph top speed. The Speedtail is built around a bespoke McLaren Monocage carbon fiber structure with a carbon fiber body, aluminum active suspension and carbon ceramic brakes.
The Speedtail’s powertrain is new gas-electric hybrid system that generates a combined 1,035 horsepower. McLaren hasn’t revealed the specifics about the powertrain, but there’s a strong possibility that it borrows the 4.0L V8 from the Senna. The McLaren Speedtail can reach not only reach speeds up to 250 mph, but it can also reach 186 mph in only 12.8 seconds, 2.7 seconds faster than the F1.
Inside the interior is similar to the McLaren F1, since it places the driver in the center of the cabin. The teardrop-shaped cabin also has two additional seats positioned on the left and right of the driver’s seat. From the driver’s seat the Speedtail’s interior looks more like a plane’s cockpit with its high-definition displays and touchscreens that sweep across the dashboard and remove almost every traditional button and switch.
McLaren will start delivering the Speedtail in 2020.
