Maserati is working on a new mid-engined sports car, which is going to debut in May 2020. While we don’t have any teasers yet of the new sports car, Maserati has announced that it will be called the MC20.

What exactly does “MC20” stand for? Maserati says that the MC is the acronym of “Maserati Corse” and 20 refers to 2020, the year which marks the start of a new phase for Maserati. The MC20 name also links the new sports car to the Maserati MC12, which marked  Maserati’s return to racing after 37 years in 2004.

Maserati also says that it will return to the world of racing with the new MC20. Production is expected to kick off by the end of 2020, which means that it should go on sale in early 2021.
