At the end of this month Lincoln is going to bring back the Aviator name for a new SUV, which is expected to be based on the Ford Explorer, but the Aviator is only one of two new SUVs that will soon join the Lincoln lineup.

With the new Aviator announcement, Lincoln has also announced that it will introduce the Aviator and second new SUV over the next two years. It’s not known exactly what the new SUV will be, but it could be a new entry level crossover that will compete with the growing number of compact luxury SUVs, like the Volvo XC40, Audi Q3 and BMW X1.

Lincoln has also confirmed that it is committed to electrifying its lineup, which will likely mean that Lincoln will also introduce hybrid versions of its future crossovers. Since Ford has already announced that it will release hybrid versions of the next-generation Ford Explorer and Escape, it’s easy to assume that the Aviator and MKC (hopefully it will get a new name) will also get hybrid versions.

We’ll have all the news about the Lincoln Aviator concept at the New York Auto Show on March 28.
