When the Lexus UX crossover arrives later this year it will be offered with either a conventional gas engine or a hybrid powertrain, but for buyers that want a fully electric crossover, it might not be too far off. A new report claims that Lexus will introduce a fully electric UX crossover in 2020.

According to Japan’s Chunichi Shimbun, the compact Lexus UX crossover will debut as the first fully electric model from Lexus. Production of the electric Lexus UX will reportedly kick off in 2020 and at least 15,000 units will be produced a year.

Now for the bad news, the report claims that sales of the UX electric crossover will be limited to Japan, China, and Europe. That means that here in the US, buyers will have to stick with the UX hybrid if they want an electrified version of the small crossover. For now Lexus hasn’t confirmed the reports about the electric UX, so we’ll have to wait and see if the report is true.
