Hyundai is going to officially unveil the 2011 Hyundai Elantra at the LA Auto Show this coming Wednesday. But in the meantime little details about one of Hyundai’s best-selling models have been leaking out.

It looks like all the new compact sedans are getting 40 mpg or more and the 2011 Elantra will now be included in that list. The Elantra will get 40 mpg on the highway and 29 mpg in the city. That puts it head to head with the 2012 Ford Focus and right behind the Chevy Cruze Eco that gets 42 mpg on the highway. The difference between the Cruze and the Elantra is that every Elantra will get 40 mpg, while only the Cruze Eco with a manual transmission achieves the 42 mpg rating.

The Elantra will be powered by a 1.8L four-cyl that puts out 148 horsepower and 131 lb-ft. of torque.
