Jeep has announced that it will expand its trim levels with the addition of the new Deserthawk models that will join the existing Trailhawk and Trackhawk models. As its name suggests models with the Deserthawk designation will have better off-road performance, specifically in the sand with “eight desert-specific engineering standards.”
You might recall that this is not the first time that Jeep has used the Deserthawk name, since it was originally used by the Jeep Renegade, but that model didn’t have the same level of upgrades. Jeep has released a teaser of a Jeep Cherokee with the Deserthawk badge that will arrive in 2020.
From this teaser we can see that the 2020 Jeep Cherokee Deserthawk will get a more aggressive front fascia, unique wheels and skid plates. Since it does have the desert-specific engineering upgrades, we expect several suspension and powertrain upgrades as well for models with the Deserthawk badge.
The Deserthawk, Trailhawk, and Trackhawk models will be positioned as the performance models in the Jeep lineup, but Jeep has also hinted that it will soon add another “hawk” model that will be geared more towards on-road urban capability. Maybe it will be called the “Urbanhawk”.
The Trackhawk trim level will add between $5,000 to $10,000 to the price of each vehicle when it goes on sale in 2020.
