Jaguar has turned one of the most beautiful cars ever made into an electric car, with the debut of the Jaguar E-type Zero. The electrified E-Type is being showed off at the Jaguar Land Rover Tech Fest in London, alongside the upcoming electric Jaguar I-Pace.

On the outside the E-type Zero retains the classic shape of the original, but under the hood the old six-cylinder engine has been swapped out for an electric powertrain. The 295 horsepower electric powertrain was specifically designed for the E-type Zero, although it does borrow some parts from the I-Pace.

Jaguar’s engineers made it a goal to not change the driving dynamics of the E-type, so the lithium-ion battery pack has the same dimensions and weighs about the same as the original six-cylinder engine. The electric powertrain is also placed in the same spot as the old engine. The electric motor sits just behind the battery pack, in the same location as the gearbox on the E-type. Total weight is about 100 pounds lower than the original E-type.

Since the dimensions and weight didn’t change much, the E-type Zero drives pretty much the same as the original E-type, although it is a bit faster. The Jaguar E-type Zero can reach 62 mph in 5.5 seconds, one second faster than the original E-type and has a driving range of 170 miles.
