Infiniti recently announced that it’s working on a new platform for its upcoming electric vehicles. While Infiniti originally only stated that the new platform would take some inspiration from the Q Inspiration concept, we’ve now learned that Infiniti’s future EVs will have a driving range of at least 311 miles.
Even better is the news that the new Infiniti electric vehicles may have around 400 horsepower. Automotive News is reporting that the new platform will be used by every model in its lineup, with the exception of the QX80 SUV by 2021. The platform will be able to be powered by a fully electric powertrain or the e-Power hybrid set up.
“In the end we realized we needed a platform that could hold an EV and e-Power and that made us decide to go for a completely new platform,” Infiniti President Roland Krueger said. “We will have our setting of the suspension, go for a double wishbone on the front axle and things like this, which is really something that is different from other vehicles we have in the lineup.”
While Infiniti is trying to keep most of the juicy details under wraps, it’s also being reported that the new electrified models could have around 400 horsepower. Why did Infiniti create a new platform? “We realized we needed a platform that could hold an EV and e-Power and that made us decide to go for a completely new platform,” Krueger stated.
