Infiniti and Mercedes-Benz have announced a new partnership that will produce a new Infiniti compact car based on the Mercedes-Benz MFA platform. The Mercedes-Benz MFA platform is also the basis for the 2012 Mercedes-Benz B-Class.

The upcoming Infiniti compact will launch with both gasoline and engine versions in 2014. Nissan executive vice president Andy Palmer recently told Automotive News Europe that the compact will be based on the Etherea concept that was unveiled in Geneva and again at the Frankfurt Motor Show this week.

The B-Class is expected to come to the U.S., but it’s not yet known if Infiniti will release the new concept in here, although it will most likely happen. The compact Infiniti is predicted to account for 40 percent of Infiniti’s sales in the U.S.
