Hyundai has finally confirmed plans to introduce its first truck, which will be based on the Santa Cruz concept that debuted back in 2015. The production version will retain the Santa Cruz name and will officially enter production in 2021.

The Santa Cruz will be built at Hyundai’s Montgomery, Alabama plant. To prepare for the new truck, which Hyundai calls a “compact utility vehicle” Hyundai plans to invest $410 million to expand the plant.

Hyundai hasn’t announced when we’ll get to see the production version of the Santa Cruz, but it will be aimed at buyers “who want all the traditional attributes of a compact utility vehicle, but need the day-to-day versatility of an open bed.”
