Hyundai has taken the wraps off the all-new i40 sedan at the Barcelona Motor Show. The i40 sedan, is the sedan version of the i40 wagon that was unveiled in Geneva. It will compete in Europe’s D-segment and will go head to head with models like the VW Passat.

The i40 sedan has styling that is very reminiscent of other Hyundai models sold in the North America, such as the new Elantra, but it is larger. According to Hyundai’s European design chief Thomas Burkle, “We wanted to move away from the typical three-box saloon and create a car that was in keeping with the sporty nature of the i40 tourer.
By sculpting a low, elongated roof line, we’ve given the i40 saloon a striking coupe-like silhouette.”

The i40 will be powered by a choice of gasoline and diesel engines. The diesel engines consist of a 1.7L turbodiesel with either 113 or 134 horsepower. At launch a 1.6L gasoline powered engine will be available with 138-hp. A 2.0L gasoline engine with 177 horsepower will also eventually be offered.

Hyundai is hoping to sell 60,000 i40s a year in Europe.
