Back in January 2015 Hyundai unveiled the Santa Cruz concept to test the waters about a future Hyundai pickup. Since then there have been reports that the Santa Cruz pickup is headed for production and now we have a confirmation that Hyundai wants to introduce it in 2020.

Hyundai Santa Cruz Concept

Kyung Soo “Ken” Lee, Hyundai Motor America’s CEO revealed to The Detroit Bureau that Hyundai wants to introduce the production version of the Santa Cruz pickup in the US by late 2020 or early 2021. “We just had a meeting to look at the design,” Hyundai’s CEO revealed. The plan is to “launch it in the U.S. market in 2020” or sometime soon afterwards.

We still don’t have a lot of details about the Santa Cruz, but it will be more like the Honda Ridgeline than a traditional body-on-frame truck. With its “softer” construction the Santa Cruz will be aimed more at millennial buyers or what Hyundai refers to as “Urban Adventurers.” We can also expect the styling to be more crossover-like than a traditional pickup.
