Currently the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid is the only hybrid minivan available on the market, but that could soon change, since Honda is considering a hybrid version of the Odyssey. Honda recently released a hybrid version of the Acura MDX, which also shares the same platform as the Odyssey – making it easier to build a case for the Odyssey Hybrid.

“We just released the hybrid (Acura) MDX so that powertrain could be considered in the future, although we can’t comment on particular plans,” Tom Sladek, principal engineer-Honda R&D Americas, recently told WardsAuto.

The decision to release an Odyssey Hybrid could come sooner than later, since Honda has already set an ambitious goal to have two-thirds of its global sales come from electrified vehicles by 2030. It’s a huge undertaking, since only five percent of Honda’s sales last year were electrified models.

“The electrification initiative is definitely coming, but on which products and which timing is not 100% clear yet,” Sladek continued.
