We knew this was coming. Last month Honda released a teaser video of a 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition lapping Japan’s Suzuka Circuit, but it didn’t really give us any other details. Now Honda has announced that the 2021 Civic Type R Limited Edition has set a new hot lap time at Suzuka.

The 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition has set a new front-wheel drive track record of 2 minutes, 23.993 seconds. The Type R was driven by Super GT Series racer Takuya Izawa.

The 2021 Civic Type R Limited Edition is a more track-focused version of the hot hatch. It’s 46 pounds lighter than the standard Type R thanks to lightweight, 20-in BBS wheels and less sound-deadening materials. Under the hood it’s powered by the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 306 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.

Only 600 Limited Edition models will be available in the US and all will come exclusively in Phoenix Yellow Pearl with contrasting gloss black accents on the roof and mirrors. Pricing is expected to start around $40,000.
