Honda Sells One Million Hybrids

Honda has announced that cumulative worldwide sales of its hybrid vehicles surpassed one million units at of the end of September 2012, 12 years and 11 months after the start of sales of the first generation Honda Insight in Japan in November 1999.

Honda has announced that cumulative worldwide sales of its hybrid vehicles surpassed one million units at of the end of September 2012, 12 years and 11 months after the start of sales of the first generation Honda Insight in Japan in November 1999. Honda began hybrid vehicle sales in U.S. in 1999 with the 2000 Honda Insight, which beat the Toyota Prius to the market. Cumulative sales of Honda hybrid vehicles in the U.S. market have now reached over 318,000 units.

Today Honda offers the Insight, CR-Z, Civic and Acura ILX hybrid models. Early next year the Accord will get two hybrid versions and the all-new 2014 Acura RLX will also arrive with a hybrid variant.
