Earlier this year Genesis unveiled the stunning Essentia coupe concept, which sparked speculation that Genesis could be planning a flagship coupe for its growing lineup. Well now Genesis has confirmed that the Essentia will enter production, but don’t expect to see a lot of them on the road.

Erwin Raphael, executive director of Genesis North America confirmed the news to Motor Trend where he revealed that Genesis is committed to putting the Essentia concept into production. The bad news though is that instead of being a high volume car, the Essentia will instead be the brand’s most expensive model and only produced in limited quantities.

“We are very committed to the Essentia,” Raphael stated. “We love the car. We think the car will do very well.”

It’s expected that the Genesis Essentia could enter production by 2021 or 2022, since Manfred Fitzgerald, global head of Genesis revealed that most of the concept is technically feasible, with the exception of the butterfly doors. The brand’s design chief Peter Schreyer says that the production version will get conventional doors.
