Four automakers have announced a partnership that will help launch a fast-charging network in Europe.
As more electric cars enter the market, the need for fast-charging network of re-charging stations is becoming even more necessary. Tesla has its supercharger network for its and even BMW, VW and Nissan have teamed up to create a similar network. Now four automakers have announced a partnership that will help launch a fast-charing network in Europe.

BMW, Daimler, Ford and Volkswagen have signed a memorandum of understanding to create the highest-powered charging network in Europe. The new network, which will launch sometime in 2017 will further the adoption of electric vehicles, by not only making it easier for drivers to find a recharging station, but it will also help them spend less time waiting at a charging station.
The new chargers will be able to fast-charge a vehicle with up to 350-kilowatts of power, which is a significant jump from the max 50-kilowatts that today’s fast-chargers pack. With a 350-kilowatt charger, an electric car will be able to re-charged in around 10-15 minutes, much fast than today’s charging systems.
Phase one of the project kicks off next year with 400 charging stations planned, but by 2020 that number will grow into the thousands.
