The current generation Ford F-150 Raptor is powered by a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, but it looks like the next-gen F-150 Raptor is getting a V8.

Ford Authority is reporting that the new Ford F-150 Raptor will be powered by Ford’s most powerful V8 – the 5.2-liter Predator V8 that powers the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500. The move is an obvious decision to make sure the F-150 Raptor has what it takes to battle the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX.

The V8 will likely generate a little less horsepower than the GT500, with between 725 to 750 horsepower. If the report is accurate, the new F-150 Raptor will have more horsepower than the Ram TX with its 707 hp on tap.

Right now it’s not known when the third-generation F-150 Raptor will arrive, since it could arrive for either the 2021 or 2022 model year.
