Ford Puma trademark hints at a name for the Baby Bronco

Ford Baby Bronco leak

Ford has confirmed plans to introduce a smaller, more rugged SUV that’s inspired by the larger Bronco, but we still don’t know what it will be called. But now we may have an idea, Ford recently filed a trademark for the Puma name, which could be used by the new “Baby Bronco.”

Australia’s GO Auto recently discovered the trademark for the Puma name, which was filed in Australia. The last time that Ford used the Puma name, it was for a Fiesta-based coupe that was sold in Germany between 1997 and 2002. Since Ford has given up on cars, it’s highly unlikely that the Puma name will be used again by a new sports car and instead could by a crossover.

The trademark application, which was filed last month also mentions that the Puma name could be used for “four-wheel drive vehicles and sports utility vehicles,” which provides more proof that the Baby Bronco could be called the Puma.

Last week there was another report that Ford has decided to create a Bronco sub-brand for its new rugged SUVs, so we’ll have to wait and see if the Puma name is actually applied to the smaller SUV.
