Ford hasn’t revealed the name for its upcoming Mustang-inspired electric crossover, but a recent trademark filing might provide a clue. The Drive has discovered that Ford recently trademarked the “Mach E” name.

According to the filing with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Ford has trademarked the “Mach E” and Mach-E” names. As usual the filing only hints at what it could be used for, “motor vehicles, namely, electric vehicles, passenger automobiles, trucks, sport utility vehicles, off-road vehicles, and structural parts, fittings, and badges therefor; metal license plate frames.”

Initially Ford planned to use the Mach 1 name for its new electric car, but after fans revealed that they hated the choice, Ford decided to scratch those plans. Ford has yet to reveal the new name for its electric crossover, so we’ll have to wait and see if it will in fact be called the Mach E.
