Chrysler to Sell Natural-Gas Vehicles in the U.S. by 2017

Chrysler is planning to start selling natural-gas powered vehicles by 2017.

Bob Lee, Chrysler’s vice president for engine and electrified propulsion systems stated, “The technology is very actively being worked on.”

Fiat, which currently owns 30 percent of Chrysler, currently has natural-gas powered vehicles in Europe. Chrysler is looking at the possibility of bringing that technology to the U.S. Fiat and Chrysler CEO, Sergio Marchionne likes natual-gas engines because they cut emissions and are cheaper than other competing technologies.

It’s not known which Chrysler models will get the new natural-gas engines, but the Ram trucks are a possibility.

“I’m eager and very interested to see what we can do with CNG in our truck applications,” Diaz said.
