It seems like every automaker is jumping on the “green” bandwagon. Chrysler has announced the creation of a new engineering division that is specifically focused on hybrids and electric vehicles.

“The creation of ENVI allows us to focus on the development of a new generation of environmentally responsible Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicles,” Chrysler CEO Bob Nardelli said in a statement today.

The new division will function as a “start up” with an entrepreneurial environment. ENVI will be located in the Chrysler Technology Center (CTC) in Auburn Hills.

According to Nick Cappa, Chrysler spokesperson, the division will not be used to convert existing Chrysler vehicles into hybrid/ electric vehicles. The division will create new vehicles that run on pure electricity or hybrid power.
