Chevy has announced that Dale Earnhardt Jr. will pace the 2019 Daytona 500 in a Chevy Silverado pace truck, which marks the first time ever that the Silverado has paced the race.

In previous years Chevy has paced the Daytona 500 12 times, with the Camaro leading the race seven times and the Corvette pacing it five times.

“I’ve had a lot of fun and a lot of success at Daytona over the years, and now I can’t wait to get out on that track in a Silverado,” said Earnhardt Jr. “Away from the track I’ve driven Chevy trucks all my life, and I’m excited to have this unique experience of pacing the Daytona 500 with the Silverado.”

The special 2019 Chevy Silverado pace truck will be powered by a 6.2L V8 that generates 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft. of torque, that’s mated to a 10-speed automatic.
