Over the past week there have been lots of reports about certain models that GM and Ford may kill off in the coming years. Over at GM there have been reports that slow sedan sales could lead to the departure of a few of Cadillac’s sedans. Now Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen has confirmed that the ATS, CTS and XTS will depart by 2019.
In an interview with Reuters, de Nysschen revealed that the three sedans won’t have any direct replacements in Cadillac’s future lineup. Instead Cadillac is going to introduce a new CT5 midsize sedan, which will be followed by a CT4 compact sedan. Both the CT5 and CT4 will be built at GM’s Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant. The Cadillac CT5 will land somewhere in the $40-$5k range, while the CT4 will have a starting price closer to $30k so that it can rival models, like the Audi A3.
At the other end of the sedan lineup, the CT6 will continue to be Cadillac’s flagship sedan. To keep it fresh, the CT6 is likely to adopt many styling cues from the Escala concept.
If you’re wondering what Cadillac has planned for its crossover lineup, a compact XT4 is expected soon, which will be followed by the three-row XT6 that will arrive by 2019.
