GM is reportedly working on a new Buick electric crossover, which will be based on the same platform as the Chevy Bolt. The Buick EV will essentially be a Chevy Bolt under the skin, but with styling that will look closer to the small Encore crossover.
InsideEVs reportedly received a tip from a source that attended a focus group for the new Buick EV crossover, in California. According to the source, the Buick EV looked “next-generation Buick Encore-like”, but it featured the same specs and 60 kWh battery as the Bolt.
“They asked questions like: “Does this look like an SUV to you?” and “Does this change your opinion of Buick?” Most people thought Bolt EV and the Buick were different vehicle types, some completely trashed Bolt EV and loved the Buick, so I guess the designers did a good job. The proportions on the Buick look very similar to an Encore or Trax.”
What else do we know about the Buick EV crossover? It will have the same exterior dimensions as the Bolt, but with 3-inches more rear legroom and it will be about 0.4 seconds slower to 60 mph. The price will also be about $3,000 more than the Chevy Bolt and it’s interior will have upgrades over the Bolt, with power controls and a larger center touch screen.
There’s no word yet when the Buick EV will be introduced.
