MINI will release its first electric car in 2019 and now a new report claims that BMW will use the same platform for a new BMW badged version, called the BMW i1. While its badge may make you assume that the BMW i1 will be smaller than the current i3, it will actually be the opposite, since the i1 will reportedly be bigger than the i3.

Motor.es is reporting that the BMW i1 will be powered by a front mounted electric motor, just like the MINI Cooper Electric. What’s not known is if the i1 will be a larger five-door hatchback model, which would give BMW a better rival to the growing number of electric hatchbacks.

While we’ll have to wait and see if the report is accurate, it’s also being reported that the future of the i3 and i8 are in jeopardy, since BMW hasn’t decided if new versions will be introduced.
