It’s being reported that the odd looking BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo is going to transition over to the 4 Series lineup when the next-generation 4 Series models debut by 2019. What’s even more interesting is that the 4 Series GT will also spawn an all-electric version in 2020 that will be positioned as a Tesla Model 3 rival.
The 4 Series GT will reportedly replace the 3 Series GT in 2019.
According to Autocar, BMW is working on a fully-electric 4 Series GT that will have a driving range over 300 miles. BMW also wants the 2020 electric 4 Series GT to be just as fast as the 335d GT with a zero-60 mph time just under five seconds and a top speed around 155 mph.

If the 3 Series GT does end up becoming the 4 Series GT, what will happen to the 4 Series Gran Coupe? According to the same report, the 4 Series Gran Coupe is going to disappear, due to slow sales, but what is interesting is that the 4 Series Gran Coupe is actually the best selling 4 Series model. The 4 Series Gran Coupe actually accounts for over 50 percent of all global 4 Series sales, so it will be interesting if the 4 Series GC does get replaced by the new GT.
BMW is also going to do the same change with the large 5 Series Gran Turismo, which is going to soon become part of the 6 Series family.
