Acura’s crossover lineup only consists of two models in the US, the three-row MDX and the C-RV based RDX. The crossover segment continues to grow in the US, so Acura is mulling the idea of bringing China’s Acura CDX here as well.
The Acura CDX is based on the same platform as the Honda HR-V, which would give Acura a competitor to models, like the Audi Q3, BMW X1 and Infiniti QX30. “It’s a model that interests a lot of our people, so we have our R&D guys looking into the possibility,” Jon Ikeda, group vice president of Acura U.S., told WardsAuto.
There’s even more proof to the report, since we recently spotted a CDX driving around the streets of Los Angeles one rainy evening. Although the CDX shares its platform with the HR-V, Ikeda warns that it’s not easy to just start shipping it here, since there are different regulatory requirements in China and the US.

In China, the CDX is powered by the same 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder as the Honda Civic, but it’s mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
