A day after reservations open Tesla gets 198k Model 3 reservations

Last night Tesla unveiled the highly anticipated $35,000 Model 3. Leading up to the debut, Tesla started taking reservations at its stores, which at some locations saw up to 1,000 people or more waiting in line to give their $1,000 fee for the reservation. Now just a day after it started taking orders, Tesla has already received around 198,000 orders.

Last night Tesla unveiled the highly anticipated $35,000 Model 3. Leading up to the debut, Tesla started taking reservations at its stores, which at some locations saw up to 1,000 people or more waiting in line to give their $1,000 fee for the reservation. Now just a day after it started taking orders, Tesla has already received around 198,000 orders.
As of this morning, Tesla has received an additional 80,000 orders since the Model 3 took the stage. Elon Musk posted the update on Twitter this morning:

Tesla’s sales have also surged 3.2 percent this morning following the debut of the Model 3.

With the insane demand for the Model 3, only time will tell if Tesla is able to meet its production goal of late 2017. Tesla has never met any of its initial production goals yet, so many critics aren’t expecting the Model 3 to actually arrive in 2017. The latest introduction, the Model X, was delayed by two years.
