Hyundai is expanding the Ioniq 5 lineup with the new 2025 Ioniq 5 XRT, a more rugged, off-road-leaning model aimed at drivers who want a bit more capability without giving up the EV’s everyday comfort. The XRT doesn’t turn the Ioniq 5 into a rock crawler, but it pushes the electric crossover closer to adventure-ready territory while keeping the core strengths that made the standard models so appealing.

2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 XRT Review

The big upgrades start with hardware. The XRT uses the familiar dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup with 320 horsepower and 446 lb-ft of torque, which means acceleration is as quick as the other AWD versions. It launches with the same strong punch and smooth power delivery, and on paved roads it rides nearly as comfortably as the rest of the lineup. Hyundai also recalibrated the suspension for rougher terrain, and the ride is compliant even over uneven surfaces. The added capability is helpful, but it doesn’t compromise day-to-day drivability.

To make the XRT more trail friendly, Hyundai gives it all-terrain tires, unique 18-inch wheels, and an off-road-tuned suspension. The tires add useful traction on gravel and loose surfaces, and the extra inch of ground clearance—now 7.0 inches—helps with the occasional uneven trail. Approach and departure angles are improved as well, and the XRT gains specific Snow, Mud, and Sand drive modes to adapt the power delivery to changing surfaces. The only downside is that those off-road tires add a bit more road noise, and their taller sidewalls take the edge off the handling compared to other Ioniq 5 trims. It’s still a smooth and composed EV on asphalt, just not quite as sharp in corners.

The larger compromise comes in efficiency. Because of the tires and added ride height, the XRT’s range drops to 259 miles, compared to 290 miles for the other dual-motor models. It’s not a massive penalty, but it’s worth noting for drivers who plan longer road trips. Charging remains a strong suit: Hyundai says the battery can go from 10 to 80 percent in about 20 minutes on a DC fast charger, or 30 minutes on a NACS charger, and the XRT includes a built-in NACS port for seamless access to Tesla’s 17,000+ Superchargers.

Visually, the XRT gets the rugged treatment with black bumpers, body cladding, and the more aggressive wheel-and-tire package. It doesn’t go overboard, but the subtle additions give the Ioniq 5 a tougher look that matches its upgraded capability.

2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 XRT Review

Inside, the XRT keeps things familiar. The cabin is nearly identical to the rest of the lineup, with the biggest differences being rubber floor mats and XRT-specific badges. That means you still get the Ioniq 5’s airy and spacious interior, along with the dual 12.3-inch displays, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless Android Auto. The layout, materials, and tech all feel modern and clean, and the cabin remains one of the strongest aspects of the Ioniq 5 overall.

Pricing is where the XRT may give shoppers pause. Starting at $57,100, it’s on the higher end for the lineup—only about $2,000 less than a fully loaded Limited AWD. Whether that premium feels worthwhile depends on how much value you place on the added capability and styling. For drivers who want the most rugged Ioniq 5 without eliminating the daily comfort and quick performance that define the model, the XRT hits a sweet spot.

2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 XRT Review

At the end of the day the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 XRT adds meaningful off-road capability and a more adventurous look while staying true to what makes the Ioniq 5 one of the best electric crossovers on the market.
