Honda has done well with its current four-cylinder hybrid powertrain that powers the Accord, Civic and CR-V, but buyers who want one of the automaker’s midsize models have had to deal with only a V6 powertrain as the option. Honda recently announced that it will introduce a new hybrid V6 system for its larger models, like the Passport, Odyssey, Ridgeline and Pilot models.

The new hybrid V6 will arrive some time in 2027, which will feature a V6 engine and up to three electric motors, with the third motor powering the rear axle for all-wheel drive models. We don’t know the displacement of the V6 yet. Honda has revealed that it is aiming for the hybrid powertrain to be around 30 percent more fuel efficient than the current V6, while acceleration times are said to be improved by over 10 percent.

Honda has yet to confirm which model will get the new hybrid powertrain first. The Pilot and Passport are the newer models which are powered by a new V6, while the Odyssey and Ridgeline still have the older engine, so maybe one of those will get the new hybrid powertrain first. Stay tuned.
