Kia has unveiled the 2027 EV3 at the New York International Auto Show. They’re presenting it as the cheapest electric vehicle in their increasing family of electric cars. The EV3 is a small electric SUV and has a lot of the benefits of the larger EV9, but in a more manageable and affordable size.
Using Kia’s 400V E-GMP system, the EV3 will have a choice of two batteries. A typical 58.3 kWh battery is estimated to allow around 220 miles of driving, while a larger 81.4 kWh battery will get front-wheel drive versions up to 320 miles. And you’ll be able to get the bigger battery with all-wheel drive on some versions.
Kia says you can get the EV3 from 10% to 80% charged in approximately 30 minutes with a quick DC charger. It has a standard NACS charging port and “Plug and Charge” abilities. You can also use the EV3 to supply power to things on the outside of the car (Vehicle-to-Load or V2L) and, with an option, send power back to your house to help with peak usage or during a power cut (Vehicle-to-Home).
The interior of the EV3 is up to date, with a large curved screen consisting of two 12.3-inch displays plus a 5-inch screen for the climate controls. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included as standard. You can also get a head-up display, a Harman Kardon sound system, interior mood lighting, and front seats that can be heated and cooled.
The EV3 GT is the higher-performance choice, with 288 horsepower and a suspension set up for sportier handling. Kia have added ‘Virtual Gear Shift’ and ‘Active Sound Design’ to make driving it more interesting.
Looking at the exterior, the EV3 uses Kia’s newest “Opposites United” design style and is styled after the EV9, including “Star Map” lights, a striking front and handles that sit flush with the doors. It’s a compact size, meant to attract people who want an electric SUV that’s simple to drive in a city, yet still roomy and useful for everyday life.
Five different trim levels will be available for the 2027 Kia EV3, and it should be in showrooms by the end of 2026. Prices will be revealed nearer the time of the launch.
