Polestar has officially pulled the wraps off its new flagship, the 2026 Polestar 5, a sleek four-door electric Grand Tourer that stays true to the striking Precept concept first shown in 2020. Designed to take on high-performance EVs like the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S, the Polestar 5 combines Scandinavian minimalism with serious power and long-distance capability.

Design Inspired by Aviation

At nearly five meters long, the Polestar 5 keeps the bold, futuristic proportions of the Precept concept with only minimal changes. The exterior features taut surfaces stretched over an aerodynamic, wing-like profile with a low nose, Kamm-style tail, and Polestar’s signature dual-blade Pixel LED headlights. A massive panoramic glass roof and frameless flush glass contribute to its sleek silhouette, while the aerodynamic lightbar and diffuser help the car achieve a drag coefficient of just 0.24.

Luxurious and Sustainable Interior

Inside, the Polestar 5 offers a 4+1 seating layout, with Recaro-designed front seats that provide both comfort and support. The cabin uses a mix of premium materials like Bridge of Weir Nappa leather, as well as innovative sustainable materials including flax-based composites, Econyl carpets, and recycled PET fabrics. A 14.5-inch portrait infotainment display runs Google’s Android Automotive OS, while available 21-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio brings concert-level sound.

Performance and Powertrain

The Polestar 5 launches in two versions:

  • Polestar 5 Dual Motor – 737 hp, 599 lb-ft. of torque, 0–62 mph in 3.9 seconds.
  • Polestar 5 Performance – 871 hp, 749 lb-ft. of torque, 0–62 mph in 3.2 seconds.

Both are electronically limited to 155 mph. The power comes from a newly developed in-house rear motor, paired with an 800-volt electrical architecture that supports ultra-fast charging up to 350 kW. On a DC fast charger, the 112 kWh battery can go from 10 to 80% in as little as 22 minutes.

Driving Dynamics

Built on Polestar’s new bonded aluminum Performance Architecture, the Polestar 5 is both lightweight and incredibly rigid, offering torsional stiffness greater than many supercars. Suspension options include passive dampers with hydraulic rebound stops or adaptive MagneRide dampers on the Performance model. Braking is handled by Brembo four-piston calipers and lightweight two-piece discs, while bespoke Michelin tires (20–22 inches) complete the handling package.

Pricing and Availability

The 2026 Polestar 5 is available to order now in Europe, with initial deliveries expected in late 2025. Pricing starts at around €119,900 for the Dual Motor model, while the more powerful Performance version comes in at €142,900. U.S. pricing will be announced closer to launch.
