The 2026 Nissan Leaf marks a major transformation for Nissan’s pioneering EV. Fully redesigned for the new model year, the third-generation Leaf ditches its hatchback roots in favor of a sleek crossover-style body and brings significant improvements in driving range, charging capability, and interior tech.

One of the biggest changes is the Leaf’s new SUV-inspired design. The 2026 Leaf is three inches shorter than its predecessor, yet it looks more rugged and modern thanks to a more upright stance and crossover proportions.

Under the hood, the new Leaf sticks with a single-motor, front-wheel-drive layout. The base model delivers 174 horsepower and 254 lb-ft of torque, while higher trims offer 214 horsepower and 261 lb-ft. The entry-level S trim comes with a 52-kWh battery, while all other versions get a larger 75-kWh battery pack.

Nissan hasn’t released range estimates for the base Leaf S, but the S+ is rated at an impressive 303 miles on a full charge—making it one of the longest-range EVs in its price segment. The SV+ offers up to 288 miles, and the top-tier Platinum+ trim is rated at 259 miles, with the decrease due to larger wheels and tires.

Charging is faster than ever, thanks to a new 150-kW DC fast charging capability. Nissan says the Leaf can go from 10 to 80 percent in just 35 minutes. The 2026 Leaf also features vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, allowing you to power external devices—perfect for camping, tailgating, or emergency backup.

Inside, the cabin gets a high-tech makeover. Higher trims are equipped with twin 14.3-inch screens, while the S and S+ trims get slightly smaller 12.3-inch displays. Google built-in is available on upper trims, offering native access to Google Maps, Assistant, and more. An available 10-speaker Bose premium audio system and an electrically dimming panoramic roof round out the upgraded feature list.

The all-new 2026 Nissan Leaf is expected to hit dealerships this fall. While pricing has not yet been announced, the Leaf is poised to remain one of the most affordable electric vehicles on the market.
