The Mazda3 sedan and hatchback were completely redesigned for the 2019 model year, so it’s not surprising that the updates to the 2020 Mazda3 are minimal. The biggest update is that the Mazda3 now comes standard with i-Activsense active safety tech.

The Mazda3 now comes standard with a Driver Attention Alert, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist and automatic high beams. The added safety features do push the base price of the 2020 Mazda3 sedan up a bit, which starts at $22,420, including the $920 destination charge. In addition to the added safety features, the base Mazda3 also now comes standard with automatic headlights and rain-sensing windshield wipers.

The base 2020 Mazda3 hatchback starts at $24,620, which is only $100 more than last year.

Buyers will be able to again choose from the Base, Select, Preferred and Premium trim levels. All versions are powered by the same 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 186 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed automatic comes standard, unless you choose the Mazda3 hatchback Premium trim level, which is available with a six-speed manual transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is optional.
