The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) recently put the 2019 Lexus UX crossover through its series of crash tests and at the end of the day it received its Top Safety Pick rating.

To receive the Top Safety Pick award, a vehicle must earn good ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests, plus a good or acceptable rating in the passenger-side small overlap front test. It also needs an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention and a good or acceptable headlight rating.

The 2019 UX received a good rating in all six crashworthiness tests and a superior rating for its front crash prevention system. The UX avoided collisions in IIHS track tests at 12 mph and 25 mph.

The UX missed out on the higher Top Safety Pick+ award, since its headlights did not receive a good rating. The UX’s optional curve-adaptive headlights earned an acceptable rating, while the base headlights earn a poor rating, largely due to excessive glare from the low beams.
