This one shouldn’t be a surprise, but the 2018 Volvo XC60 has earned the highest possible safety rating from the IIHS – Top Safety Pick+.

2018 Volvo XC60 T6

To earn the Top Safety Pick+ award, a vehicle must have good ratings in all five IIHS crashworthiness tests — small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints. Plus an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention and an acceptable or good headlight rating.

According to the IIHS, the 2018 Volvo XC60 aced the crashworthiness tests and its standard front crash prevention system improved from an advanced to a superior rating. In the IIHS track tests at 12 mph and 25 mph, the 2018 XC60 avoided collisions. The only bad news is that the headlights that are part of the Advanced package only received an acceptable rating, which is down from the good rating that the 2017 XC60 received.
