Nissan is adding a new Intelligent Rear View Mirror to the 2018 Nissan Armada SUV. Similar to Cadillac’s system, the Intelligent Rear View Mirror adds a built-in LCD monitor to the rearview mirror to give better view of what’s behind the vehicle.

The 2018 Armada is the first Nissan to get the new I-RVM technology. Its major benefit is that it removes obstacles, like oversize cargo and tall passengers that would normally block a traditional rear view mirror. The Intelligent Rear View Mirror looks just like a traditional rearview mirror, but the I-RVM technology can be activated with the flip of a switch located at the bottom of the mirror – even while the Armada is moving.

How does it work? The Intelligent Rear View Mirror uses a high-performance, narrow-angle rear-facing camera and a specially shaped LCD monitor, with a unique aspect ratio of approximately 4:1, versus conventional monitors’ 4:3 or 16:9.
