Hyundai has pulled the covers off the fifth-generation 2018 Hyundai Accent, which is debuting at the 2017 Orange County Auto Show. The new Accent looks more grownup now with styling the mimics the larger Sonata and Elantra models, while the interior is now quieter with more features.
At the front the 2018 Accent gets Hyundai’s signature cascading grille, more expressive headlights and optional LED running lights. As you move back, there are new character lines to give the Accent’s profile a sharper look, while the roof sweeps back to the trunk. The rear gets new LED taillights. The Accent is 0.6-inches longer than the outgoing model at 172.6-inches long and 1.2-inches wider at 68.1 inches wide. It’s height remains unchanged, while its wheelbase has been stretched 0.4-inches to 101.6 inches. Hyundai says that the new exterior is also more aerodynamic with a 0.28 coefficient of drag.
Inside, the 2018 Accent’s design again mimics the larger sedans in Hyundai’s lineup. There are also more premium materials and the space in the interior is bigger than the what you’ll get with a Ford Fiesta or Toyota Yaris iA. The Accent has an available infotainment system that includes a 7-inch Display Audio touchscreen system and rearview camera. The 7-inch display also has both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Hyundai Blue Link is also available and now integrates with Amazon Alexa and Google Home.
Under the hood, the 2018 Accent is powered by an updated 1.6-liter Gamma four-cylinder engine that produces 130 horsepower and 119 lb.-ft. of torque. Buyers can choose from either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission. Fuel efficiency has also been improved by an estimated 7 percent overall.
Sadly the one thing you’ll notice that we haven’t discussed, is the Accent hatchback. Hyundai has decided to kill the hatchback and now will only offer the Accent as a sedan. The 2018 Hyundai Accent will arrive this fall.
