Cadillac has unveiled the 2017 XT5 crossover, which is the replacement for the SRX and is also the first of a new series of Cadillac crossovers.
Cadillac has unveiled the 2017 XT5 crossover, which is the replacement for the SRX and is also the first of a new series of Cadillac crossovers. The XT5 follows the introduction of the new range-topping CT6 sedan and rides on a completely new chassis that is lighter than the outgoing SRX.
Going forward all Cadillac crossovers will wear the “XT” designation, but don’t worry, the Escalade is a true SUV and will keep its popular name. Compared to the outgoing SRX, the XT5 is 278 pounds lighter and even 100 pounds lighter than the Audi Q5 – despite the fact that the XT5 is seven inches longer. Inside the interior room has increased as well, with the rear legroom stretching 3.2-inches.

In the U.S. the XT5 will be powered by a new 3.6L V6 with 310 horsepower and 270 lb-ft. of torque that’s mated to a new 8-speed automatic transmission. The V6 features cylinder deactivation technology and a Stop/Start system will also help the XT5 save fuel. In China, the XT5 will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder. Buyers can choose a new twin-clutch all-wheel drive system.
On the technology front, the 2017 XT5 gets a new rear camera mirror system that improves the driver’s rear vision by 300 percent, using a video display applied over the conventional inside rearview mirror. The XT5 also features 4G wireless connectivity, with a standard integrated Wi-Fi hotspot and standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. To keep you safe, the XT5 is available with automatic front and rear braking for low-speed conditions, Lane Keeping Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Side Blind Zone Alert, full-speed range Adaptive Cruise Control and Automatic Parking Assist.
The 2017 XT5 is going to enter production in spring 2016.
