Ford has revealed the updates to the 2016 Ford Explorer, which is not only getting a facelift, but also a new 2.3L four-cylinder EcoBoost engine and a new Platinum trim level.
25 years after the first Explorer was introduced, the updated Explorer gets a more rugged looking exterior. The exterior gets a restyled grille, LED headlights, restyled taillights and new alloy wheel designs. Inside the 2016 Explorer is more luxurious and the infotainment system now has easier to use buttons that replace the harder to use touch-sense buttons.

A new 2.3L four-cylinder turbocharged engine replaces the previous 2.0L engine. Ford estimates that it will generate at least 270 horsepower and 300 lb-ft. of torque, which is 12.5 percent more horsepower and 11 percent more torque over the current 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine.
The standard engine will continue to be the 290 horsepower 3.5L V6, while the Explorer Sport and Platinum edition get a standard 365-hp 3.5L EcoBoost V6.
The new Platinum series model takes the Explorer further upscale with front seats that are wrapped in Nirvana leather, brushed aluminum and satin-finished ash wood in multi-piece appliqués on all door panels and the instrument panel, a wood-trimmed steering wheel and a 10-inch display. The Explorer Platinum is also the first Ford to get a new 500-watt Sony audio system with Live Acoustics and Clear Phase technology. Lastly the Explorer Platinum gets LED headlights, 20-inch wheels, a dual-panel moonroof and front and rear skid plates.
The 2016 Explorer is set to arrive next summer.
