Kia has updated the Sportage compact crossover for the 2014 model year, which gets a new grille, an updated 2.4L four-cylinder and a few other upgrades. The Sportage’s updated isn’t a big change, but the bigger news is the updated base 2.4L four-cylinder, which is now more powerful thanks to the addition of direct injection.
The 2.4L now puts out 182 hp and 178 lb-ft. of torque compared to the 2013 model, which was slightly lower at 176 hp and 168 lb-ft. of torque. The updated 2.4L will also be slightly more fuel efficient, but Kia hasn’t released the fuel economy specs. For buyers that want more power, Kia still offers the turbocharged 2.0L.
The 2014 Sportage also gets standard high performance dampers across all trim levels and on the inside a tilt and telescopic steering column is now standard in addition to standard rear ventilation and reclining outboard seats. Kia’s UVO eServices is standard on the EX and SX models and available as a package on LX.
