Porsche just released the all-new 2012 Porsche 911 with seven-speed manual transmission and now it’s being reported that the next 2014 Chevy Corvette will also be available with seven-speed manual.
It remains to be seen if the seven-speed manual will get the extra gear solely to improve the Corvette’s fuel efficiency. It’s suspected that the engine will continue to use two overdrive gears like the current six-speed manual transmission. The two overdrive gears would give GM’s engineers the ability to tighten the ratios of the lower gears for better low-speed performance.
The next-generation Corvette is expected to continue to be powered by a pushrod V8, but the engine will be revised. Direct-injection and a variable valve lift system are some of the enhancements that we can expect to see in 2014.
