Ford has announced that the 2013 Ford Escape with its new 1.6L EcoBoost four-cylinder gets 33 mpg on the highway, which is 2 mpg better than the Honda CR-V and 5 mpg better than Toyota RAV4. The 2013 Escape is also the most fuel-efficient small SUV with an automatic transmission (the 2013 Mazda CX-5 is rated at 35 mpg, but with a manual transmission).

In addition to getting 33 mpg on the highway with the turbocharged 178 horsepower 1.6L engine, all three of the Escape’s four-cylinder engines get over 30 mpg on the highway. The 240-horsepower 2.0L EcoBoost is rated at 22/30 mpg, while the 168 horsepower 2.5L four-cylinder is rated at 22/31 mpg.
