2011 Ford Mustang GT to Pace Daytona 500

The 2011 Ford Mustang GT is set to pace the 2010 Daytona 500 on February 14th. The 2011 Mustang GT sees the return of a 5.0L V8 under the hood and now puts out 412 horsepower. The Mustang GT that will pace the the field will be a one of a kind Mustang.

The 2011 Mustang GT pace car will be painted in a special Daytona 500 Race Red paint scheme with Blue/White Lemans stripes. It also gets a Ford Racing suspension, strut tower brace, mufflers, unique painted wheels and special interior treatment including lighted sill plates. The Mustang will also be an actual production car with an early VIN and will be offered for auction at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction on Saturday January 23rd. All Proceeds over MSRP will go to help cure childhood diabetes through a donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

This marks the first time in 40 years that a Ford vehicle has paced the Daytona 500. The last time was the 1970 Torino GT convertible.
