GM’s Maven is expanding it’s platform to the “gig economy” which is a new term for users that make their money doing independent or freelance gigs, like package delivery, food or grocery delivery, and ridesharing. Maven Gig gives freelancers weekly access to a Chevy Bolt EV when they need it for $229 a week, which includes insurance and unlimited miles.

Maven Gig is currently live in San Diego and will launch in San Francisco and Los Angeles later this year. Initial partners include GrubHub, Instacart, Roadie and ridesharing services.

“Maven Gig is enabling freelancers to earn income through multiple sources,” said Julia Steyn, vice president, General Motors Urban Mobility and Maven. “Maven is a smart, innovative platform transforming the future of shared mobility.”

With no penalty for early returns after one week, Maven Gig is an easy way to test out the freelance economy. This is especially ideal for potential drivers who do not own a vehicle or are unable to use their personal vehicle. Maven Gig serves as a singular portal allowing access to vehicles that could be used for multiple sharing services with endless possible gigs.

“The gig economy is driving innovation and creating opportunity for so many who want to freelance as their primary source of income,” said Harry Campbell, owner and founder of The Rideshare Guy Blog and Podcast. “Maven Gig will make their days more seamless and productive.”
