You’d probably have a hard time finding anyone to say that the current generation Passat is sporty or exciting, but Volkswagen is reportedly trying to change that. According to a report from Digital Trends, Volkswagen is going to reveal a sportier Passat GT later this year.
Last year VW unveiled the Passat GT concept at the LA Auto Show and now VW is reportedly going to reveal the production version a year later at the same show. A Volkswagen spokesperson reportedly confirmed the report.
On the outside the updates to the Passat GT were minimal with the updates being restricted to sportier bumpers, a black grille, different wheels and a rear spoiler, Under the hood the Passat GT concept was powered by a 280-hp 3.6L VR6 engine. That same engine is slated for the production model with 280-hp and 258 lb-ft. of torque.
Pricing for the 2018 Passat GT is expected to start around $30,000, but we’ll get all the details at the LA Auto Show later this year.
